I learned that God works in amazing ways if you open your heart to Him. I learned that everyone has a story. God works in your life where you are at. You don't have to have lots of struggles in your life to have a good testimony. God works in each of our lives in different ways. I was so blessed by the camper's testimonies. It was such an encouragement to me and I am so thankful to have been part of it.

CIT Post: Why I became a CIT - Claire
A note from camper/CIT Claire about why she chose to become a CIT (counselor in training).
I became a CIT because I have been coming to YCL for most of my life and I have always wanted to help the campers have the best time possible. YCL has always been a safe place and a second home for me. I wanted to make a difference in the camper's lives like my counselors made a difference in mine.
***
CITs are students between 13 and 18 years old who are selected to participate in camps as "counselors in training". They attend a training camp and are expected to help in the dorms during normal camp life. CITs must be 15 or older to work at Jr. High camp. If your student is interested in becoming a CIT, contact the camp office about opportunities in 2014!

Camper Post: Camp Memories
A reflection by Camper/CIT Anna after Senior High Camp 2013.
There are too many great camp memories to choose from. I have great memories with friends. We bonded over s'mores and campfire songs. Praising God is always more fun with friends. I love the cook, Angie! She is the bomb! Superman prayer all the way. Basically, go to camp and you will have the best week of your life!

Staff Post: My First Camp at YCL
Jon is a first time counselor at YCL. Although he has attended church camp as a youth, he has never been to camp at Yellow Creek Lake! Senior High camp was his first experience as a camp counselor.
My first camp at YCL was phenomenal. The campers all connected extremely well and the focus of the week was on testimonies. I, myself, have a hard testimony and being able to share it with others is freeing. KC and Diana are so in tune with the Holy Spirit and they are full of wisdom, much of which I will remember forever.
My first camp at YCL has drawn me closer to God and strengthened my faith as a Christian. Only one week in and YCL has made a major impact in my life. God is using this camp for great things and I am extremely blessed to be part of it.

Camper Post: Great News
This is from a camper at Sr. High camp in response to the question "what is a favorite story, song, activity, or something that makes camp special to you".
After this Thursday night's service, I accepted God into my heart for the first time.

How We Prepare for "Severe" Weather
It is Wednesday night, mid-way through Sr. High camp. We've known all day that conditions are favorable for a severe storm. We have been so fortunate that the rain held off during the day. In spite of the hot, humid weather, the kids had a fantastic day playing in the yard - messy games, wet games - it was a beautiful site!
We are prepared for the worst and will enjoy waiting out the storm. The youth were in worship when the rains started. Even now, an hour later - they are preparing to close their time of worship.
The basement of the Multi-Purpose Building is our storm shelter. We spent some time clearning space in a side room for games and activities. The tornado shelter is ready as well. Board games, art pages, snacks, and water are all ready for emergency supply.
Flashlight batteries are checked, coffee pot is ready for transport (yes, counselors need a little pep sometimes). We' ve got glow sticks as well - hey, you can't be over-prepared for a storm, right?
Weather.com sends regular storm updates to a phone on campus so we can be wise and move students to safety when the time comes.
In case of an emergency, all contact numbers are in the office and with one of our pastors in Anderson. The YCL Facebook page will be updated to let parents know how we do in this storm. In the event that we lose power for an extended period of time, we will call emergency contacts and camp could end sooner than expected.

Registration and Pick Up (Times and Info)
All Camp registrations start at 3pm on the first day of camp. After registration, campers will settle into their dorms. Activities begin shortly after all students have completed registration. All students need a completed registration form, completed health forms, and a copy of their insurance cards. If your registration was sent through the mail, all of these should be completed already. If your student has registered online, you will still need to fill out the health form and bring a copy of their insurance cards. If you are registering at the door, copies of each form will be available.
Camps end at 6pm on the final day of the camp. Most camps will end with a short celebration service in the multi-purpose building (where campers registered). Campers will already have their bags packed and ready to be loaded into vehicles when they are picked up. Please plan on time to take pictures of your camper with friends and say goodbye before leaving for the summer.

2013 Camp Theme
Over the past several years camps at Yellow Creek Lake have adopted a different summer theme each year. This theme is carried out in each camp in a variety of different ways. Theme verses are taught through worship, games, crafts, and more. The theme sets the tone for the summer. We are so excited that this summer we will be living out the theme "Heirs To The Kingdom". The Bible is about God's call to His people to be part of the great Kingdom. Jesus brought the Kingdom to the people! Through Christ, we can have freedom from the sins and stains of this world and live in God's Kingdom right now! What exciting news. We are called to be princes and princesses in the Kingdom of God!
"So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir." Galatians 4:7
